握手 ~ The Handshake

50多年前,安利凭着一次握手而诞生了。两位创办人Jay Van Andel Rich DeVos 都对自己和本身的能力深信不疑。他们知道自己想干一番怎样的事业,并且乐意齐心协力达成目标。两名合伙人平起平坐。他俩互相支持对方的决策,在创业的历程中边学边做,有福同享,有难同当。

More than 50 years ago, Amway was founded on a handshake. Each of the two partners, Jay Van Andel and Rich DeVos, was sure of himself and his abilities. They knew what they wanted out of their new business and they were willing to work together to achieve their goals. Neither partner was more important than the other. They supported each other’s decisions and shared the highs and lows of lesson learned.

The handshake is a simple act of partnership, but it speaks volumes about how we will always do business. Because Amway is build on teamwork, it’s important for everyone to share their knowledge and experience. It’s good to be confident in your own abilities and perhaps even better to be confident in your team.
Yet no one in the group is more important than others. Humility is the other half of the business equation.  We serve others, whether they are customers, teammates or members of our local communities. 相信不少人已经知道这个消息,安利公司在今年6月的单月全球销售额达到10亿美元,这是公司创立以来的第一次,同时也是一项惊人的成就,值得让我们共同欢庆。要是没有你以及你对安利事业的全心投入,我们不可能有今天这番成就。

As some of you may have heard, this past June, Amway reached $1 billion in global sales for the first time ever in a single month. This amazing accomplishment and one that we should celebrate together. Without you and your dedication to this business, we wouldn’t be here we are today.
We believe 2011 will be a record-breaking year for Amway and we are very proud to be a part of this growing business. Sales are increasing as well as our overall awareness. These indicators speak to the strength of our business model across the globe and to the power of the Amway brands and the Amway Business Opportunity.
We provide the opportunity for people to go into business for themselves. Our business brings economic and personal freedom to people around the world. It expands the definition of family to the people in our lives who provide the essential support and encouragement we need on a day-to-day basis. 回顾和愿望 ~ Looking Back, Looking Ahead

When our fathers started this business 50 years ago, they based it on the belief that it offered people the freedom to be what they wanted to be. To live where they wished to live. To support the causes they believed in. To explore the full and exciting range of their potential.

One of the great advantages of the Amway Sales & Marketing Plan is that anyone can participate. But do you know an even greater advantage? Anyone can succeed.

That's right. Anyone.
Conventional opportunities typically erect barriers for those who want to participate - barriers such as a huge financial investment. many years of experience or a specialized education.

However, here at Amway, we don't believe in barriers and stop signs. We don't look for ways to keep people out. Instead, we keep the door open for everyone who wants to come in. We welcome anyone who has a dream and wants to make it come true.

Essentially, we provide a pathway for anyone who wants to improve their life - something to always remember when you're seeking prospective Amway Distributor. Anyone and everyone is a potential Amway Distributor, not just that small select group of people who seem like they could be business superstars. Furthermore, not everyone wants to be a superstar. For many folks, success simply means earning a little extra income every month.

Just look at the many stories in the Amagram about people from every kind of background and how they've succeeded. Just think about how many of these Amway Distributor would have never started a business if their sponsor had assumed they didn't have the right "leadership qualifications."

The only solution, and the simple solution, is to talk to everybody. Because in this business anybody can succeed.

Tribute to Jay Van Andel (June 3, 1924 – December 7, 2004)


Jay Van Andel, the Co-founder of Amway Corporation, was born on June 3, 1924 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He is a graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High School and attended Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa, Pratt Business School in Pratt, Kansas, and Yale University Aviation Cadet School in New Haven, Connecticut.

In August of 1952 he married the former Betty Hoekstra. They have four children, Nan, Steven, Barbara and David. Jay and Betty's sense of family, first demonstrated in the upbringing of their children, transcended traditional bounds, finding its way into relationships formed both in business, neighbors, the community of Grand Rapids and beyond.

Years of dedication reflect Jay Van Andel's tremendous personal energy - energy brought to many and varied interests, not the least of which is the Amway Corporation. Amway is one of the largest direct selling companies. The company offers more than 450 Amway-name products, thousands of brand-name items through the Personal Shoppers catalog, plus a variety of services and education products. These products are sold by more than 3 million entrepreneurs operating in over 80 countries. A phenomenal success story of the American entrepreneurial spirit, Amway was founded in 1959 by Jay Van Andel and Richard DeVos. Its unheralded growth in the decades that followed has been a source of inspiration and amelioration for literally millions around the world.


As Amway's presence reached around the world so did Jay Van Andel's reputation. In 1992, President George Bush appointed Jay to serve as the United States Ambassador and Commissioner General to Genoa Expo '92. He has also served as Chairman of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Director of the Gerald R. Ford Foundation, Chairman of the Netherlands-American Bicentennial Commissions, and as a member of the U.S.O. World Board of Governors. He is a Trustee of the Jamestown Foundation, Hudson Institute and the Heritage Foundation, as well as the Founder of the Van Andel Institute for Education and Medical Research in Grand Rapids.

The history of nutrition owes much to Carl Rehnborg and ground-breaking NUTRILITE products. Today, plants used in our concentrates are grown on our own certified organic farms, where we use no synthetic chemical pesticides, herbicides or fertilisers.

Amway was an early innovator in using biodegradable ingredients in SA8 laundry detergent and other cleaning products. As we manufacture products, we also recycle, reuse and recover waste materials along the way. Our facilities are designed to conserve energy, too.

Fifty years ago our fathers started a small business. As Amway grew and expanded globally, a few things remained constant - mutual trust, respect, and an incredible spirit of partnership. These ideals have endured from day one in this business because they came from the friendship of our fathers.

Uncommon Freedoms

The Amway enterprise is more than a business. It is an experience and a way of life unique in the modern America and the world. Controversial, fascinating and undeniably compelling, it has captured the interest of millions. What is Uncommon Freedoms?

There are many freedoms. The best freedoms are the most elusive ones - the ones for which the greatest effort must be made. Those are the freedoms of which Amway people most often talk: the freedom to be a full-time parent, freedom to share honest emotions unselfconsciously, freedom to trust and be trusted, freedom to work where the heart and not just the paycheck, freedom to be a hero to one's kid.

There are more tangible freedoms, too, of which Amway distributors dream: freedom from the alarm clock, the commuter-bus schedule, the nine-to-five drudge; freedom to live in that better house, in that better neighborhood; freedom to take the kids along when they want to go; freedom to play golf at St. Andrews & Pebble Beach instead of public golf course; freedom merely to pay the bills; freedom not to worry about retirement.

These are truly uncommon freedoms. Most men and women wish for them, dream of them, but never find a way to have them. Amway's extra-ordinary momentum and energy comes from the conviction of its people that they have found a way to earn those freedoms. The fact that Amway has reached its 50th. anniversary is the result of many people working hard and working together to meet common goals. A Business of Your Own

Perhaps one of the features that attracted you to Amway was the promise of "a business of your own." But did you know that we were the first ones in direct selling to make that claim?

At that time, a direct seller's income stemmed entirely from retailing. Some companies did pay a one-time "recruiting fee" - but only once. No follow-up. And a company could switch or shrink your "territory" any time.

But we were different. In Amway, the whole world is your "territory", and all the customers you generate, all the Distributors you sponsor, are your own. Not Amway's, not your sponsor's, not your Direct's. Yours.

That means you can look ahead - just as we did. You can ask yourself (and your prospect): Where do you want to be five years from now? ... Ten years? ... What do you want to have? 


Because now you can have it. Sure, you have to work - but not for Amway. It's your business, so you're working for yourself. That alone makes a tremendous difference.

A difference that pays off. Ask any Diamond - any Direct Distributor. They didn't buy those pins, and they didn't start yesterday either. They began a business of their own, they worked at it, and it paid off.

Your business can pay off, too.
How much? ... When?
... It's up to you.

Keep It Simple

One of the main reasons for Amway's success is that it is essentially a very simple business. If all you want is an extra income, you only need to do one thing: retail products to your friends, relatives and neighbours. The more you do so, the larger your extra income. It's as easy as that.

If you want to build an independent business, you do one other thing as well: sponsor others and help them do the same.

That makes two things, and that's all there really is to it.

Of course, we strongly recommend you keep the two balanced by dividing your time equally between them. And, yes, it's easy to busy yourself entirely with related tasks: ordering, shelf-stocking, bookkeeping, publishing a newsletter, and so on. And as your business grow, another chore will be added: People will ask you to make speeches.


But while most of these tasks must be done, they do not all necessarily have to be done by you. We're always recommended that such jobs be delegated. Others can do them, perhaps better than you can, and even if their services are a business expense, you're further ahead. You've got a bigger business to afford it - because you're free to do what only you can do: retail and sponsor.

And as far as speeches are concerned, you might ask yourself how much the programme director wants a speaker (any speaker), and how much he wants you.

Keep it simple - and succeed.

Keep The Plan Simple

The Amway business opportunity can be made to sound complex, but it's really quite simple. "Here's a way to extra income, and here's how it works." And the more simple you present it, the stronger impression it makes ... and the longer it is remembered.
True, it's not easy. There's a human tendency to elaborate on the extras: the higher awards, the bonuses, the trips, the get-togethers - and the things that can help motivate you - after you've become a Distributor. But the more you talk about the future, the less you relate to a prospect who's wondering what Amway can do for him/her right now.

We've long known one expert who keeps it simple by "drawing the circles" on a napkin. He notes all the major points, too - all that's necessary to get the prospect interested in trying it out.


His method has other advantages:
[1] Convenient. It can be done almost anywhere.
[2] Personalized. He places the prospect's name in the centre ("You") circle.
[3] Reference. The prospect can take it with him (and he/her always does).
The fact is, our friend is a Crown Ambassador Direct Distributor, and has been for some time.

But then, maybe that's one reason he's a Crown Ambassador. He presents Amway as simple, easy-to-understand business proposition ... an opportunity that anybody can utilize.

And so can you.
